Adolescent Health / Paediatric Rheumatology

Dr OC Ofiaeli is a dedicated Paediatrician; a Fellow of both the West African College of Physicians and National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN). She has interests in Adolescent Health, Paediatric Nutrition, Paediatric Rheumatology and General Paediatrics.

She currently runs the Adolescent Health and Paediatric Rheumatology Clinics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra state, Nigeria. She is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi campus, Anambra state, Nigeria.


Dr OC Ofiaeli has done some research on child health and published in notable journals both in Nigeria and internationally. She has completed several Post-Graduate courses among which are Paediatric Nutrition by the Boston University Medical School brought by Nestle and MedInscribe, Global Adolescent Health by University of Melbourne, Paediatric Rheumatology by European League Against Rheumatism, among others.

She is a Level II graduant of the Pan African Thoracic Society Methods in Epidemiological, Clinical and Operations Research training (PATS MECOR). She has also been trained in Health Management by the University of Washington and attained her PhD from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.


She is a member of several societies among which are the Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN), Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Medical and Dental Consultant’s Association of Nigeria, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), among others.

She has facilitated several health programs and trainings among medical undergraduates and post-graduates, adolescents as well as para-medicals.


She is a homemaker and a passionate Paediatrician. She is also an enthusiastic academic.

  • Serum total adiponectin in healthy pre-pubertal nigerian school children (Nigerian Journal of Clinical Practice)
  • Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with paediatric cancer in low-income, middle-income and high-income countries: a multicentre, international, observational cohort study (BMJ Open)

Dr. Nri-Ezedi has made notable contributions to the field of pediatric endocrinology, extending beyond clinical practice. She co-authored a book chapter on MedEClasses Pediatric Endocrinology Protocols, which serves as a valuable resource for fellow practitioners and researchers in the field. Additionally, Dr. Nri-Ezedi has published a series of insightful articles on social issues pertaining to child care on prominent international platforms.

Developmental Paediatrics/ Adolescent Health

Dr Chioma N.P. Mbachu is a consultant Paediatrician and lecturer in the department of Paediatrics, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi campus, Anambra State, Nigeria.

She is passionate about Developmental Paediatrics and adolescent health, and has conducted several studies on these that have been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals. Currently, she serves as an Editorial Board member of the British Journal of Guidance and Counselling.

Notable works include her research on

  • Hepatitis E infection among adolescents
  • Psychoactive substance use among adolescents (presented at the 2nd Global Addiction Conference in London, United Kingdom)
  • The impact of COVID 19 on adolescents
  • Conference presentation on the knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders and willingness to use gene therapy among doctors in Nigeria,at the 54th Paediatric Association of Nigeria conference (PANCONF) in January 2023.

  • Molecular Characterization of Staphylococcus saprophyticus urinary tract infection among adolescents in Anambra state, Nigeria
  • Knowledge of neurodevelopmental disabilities and willingness to use gene therapy among doctors in Nigeria

She was a member of the Panel of experts in the 53rd PANCONF and discussed the effects of Social Media on Child Abuse. She also authored a book chapter on Internet Addiction in Practical Guide to Common Adolescent and Social Issues.

She aims to focus on translational research to impact children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and mental health disorders.

National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria Reaccreditation Team with Members of the Paediatric Department

The department of Paediatrics hosted the reaccreditation team of the NPMCN on the 2nd and 3rd of February.

The team which was ably led by the Chairman, Prof A Ikefuna, had on its team, the secretary of NPMCN, Dr A. Ubesie and the Chief Examiner from UBTH Prof O Ibadin.

The exercise was successful and the reaccreditation impressed with the departmental growth.

MWAN: World Cancer Day


MWAN Anambra state, ably led by a seasoned paediatrician and Senior Lecturer of Paediatrics Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Dr Chinyere Ukamaka Onubuogu, marked the World Cancer Day on 5th February, in style, with a road walk and other public enlightenment programs through radio talk at Authority FM Nnewi, market outreach and social media campaigns.

Other academic members of the department of Paediatrics participated actively with Dr Chioma Mbachu leading the duo that educated the public via an hour long phone-in radio program on different types of cancer, and Dr Ogo Ofiaeli gave a talk on cervical cancer.
