A Message about the Faculty

The Faculty of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, occupies a unique and distinguished position in Nigerian medical education. Its founding principle of training doctors of the highest standard, grounded in scientific knowledge, clinical proficiency and humanistic values remains as vital today as it was at the Faculty’s inception in 1987.

Medical education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University is structured to produce graduates equipped for the full breadth of modern medical practice: from primary health care in underserved communities to advanced clinical specialisation, biomedical research and global health leadership. The six-year MBBS programme, underpinned by an internationally aligned curriculum, challenges students to think critically, act compassionately and contribute meaningfully to the science and art of medicine.

The Faculty is home to outstanding academic staff across three constituent faculties: the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine who together deliver a seamless continuum of learning from pre-clinical foundations to clinical mastery. This collaborative structure, in partnership with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, ensures that every graduate receives world-class clinical exposure.

The Faculty warmly invites prospective students, collaborating institutions, research partners and the wider health community to engage with its programmes, contribute to its research agenda and share in its mission of advancing health and wellness through excellence in medical education.
