About the Department
The Department of Internal Medicine is a fully accredited department within the Faculty of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus. Recognised by both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the Department delivers undergraduate clinical lectures and structured clinical postings leading to the Fifth Professional (Final MBBS) Examination.
History
The Department of Internal Medicine was established in 1988 as one of the founding clinical departments of the Faculty. From an initial full-time academic staff of three and a student population of fewer than 50, it has grown to a department of 20 academic staff comprising of professors, readers, senior lecturers and lecturers currently training over 90 undergraduates per cohort. Graduates of the Department have consistently performed competitively with their peers across Nigeria and internationally.
